KSA Songa Mbele campus started in 2010 as a project in the Ministry of Agriculture called Songa Mbele Community Development Initiative (SOMCoDI).
The main objective of the project was economic empowerment and poverty reduction. SOMCoDI focused its effort on food security and proper nutrition, improvement of home hygiene, identification of appropriate technologies for utilization of available resources.
In the year 2015 SOMCoDI was taken over as a satellite campus of Kenya School of Agriculture and renamed Kenya School of Agriculture, Songa Mbele Campus, Thika.
This campus is modelled as a Centre of Excellence in agricultural training related to agribusiness, value addition and horticulture enterprises value chains. The campus is strategically placed for horticultural value chains training.
The school conducts short courses that are demand-driven and skill-based. The campus has continued to run outreach programmes to farmers in collaboration with the county governments and other stakeholders.
